Comforting Food for Dogs with Diarrhea: Boiled Rice and Hamburger

Upset stomachs of dogs often prove to be a huge problem for most pet owners to overcome when looking for nutritious yet easily digestible food. Just as chicken soup calms the human stomach, a simple diet of boiled hamburger and rice would calm an upset dog's stomach. The bland diet provides enough time for the gastrointestinal tract to heal while offering the animal required nutrients.

Why a Bland Diet?

Diarrhea can make it hard for dogs to hold down food, and eating their normal diet can make the problem worse. Most commercial canine diets include ingredients which may exacerbate an already inflamed stomach. A bland diet of rice and lean ground beef offers necessary nutrients without taxing the digestive system.

It's always best to have a checkup with the veterinarian first to change the diet, though, to rule out any underlying serious health issues. With the veterinarian's approval, this homemade recipe can be a convenient but well-worth-it option for a dog's recovery

Boiled Hamburger and Rice Recipe

Ingredients:

3 cups water

½ pound lean ground beef

½ cup brown rice (white rice can also be substituted)

Instructions:

Brown the ground beef in a large frying pan on medium heat until browned thoroughly. Do not put spices or seasonings in it. Break the meat into small bits for easier mixing.

While browning the beef, boil water in a different pot and put in the rice. Follow the cooking instructions on the rice box because typically brown rice requires more water than white rice.

Drain surplus fat after the beef is fully cooked. It is okay to have a small quantity of fat, but excessive fat can even worsen diarrhea.

Combine the cooked rice and cooked beef well.

Cool down the meal fully before serving.

Feeding Guidelines

The dogs seem to prefer this meal due to the cooked beef, even though nothing additional has been put in terms of flavoring. The portion size should be in approximately the dog's usual kibble amount.

This food can be fed for a maximum period of one week, depending on progress in recovery.

Gradually, once the dog's stool begins to solidify, reintroduce ordinary food to avoid over-weighting.

Small amounts of plain cooked vegetables can be added for extra nutrients after some improvement.

Conclusion

A simple combination of boiled rice and ground meat can serve as an excellent remedy for dogs with diarrhea. It provides sustenance without overwhelming the stomach. Although easy to prepare, this diet can be highly helpful in aiding a dog's recovery. However, in case the condition persists, the best course of action remains consulting a veterinarian
